Chemmariner’s Personnel Policies

We recognize that Chemmariner’s employees-both ashore and at sea-are vital to our success and also serve as the base for company's strength in the quality of our operations.  Recognizing the critical importance of our human resources;

Chemmariner maintains the following policies:

Chemmariner will ensure that the right people are employed in the right positions with the right work instructions.

Chemmariner will ensure that appropriate training is provided to all employees to enable them to stay up-to-date and advance  whereever appropriate.

Chemmariner will provide a safe place to work and healthy working environment placing continual emphasis on accident prevention, safety awareness and health protection within its ability to do so.

Chemmariner will provide and maintain appropriate safety and security equipment, fire protection, first aid and welfare facilities.


Specific policies include:

  • Chemmariner will maintain a full and practiced state of safety and security awareness over all its vessels.
  • Chemmariner will maintain shore side and on board contingency plans.
  • The navigation and operation of Chemmariner’s ships will reflect these policies.
  • Chemmariner will monitor its safety and security record by appropriate reporting, analysis and feedback concerning all accidents, incidents and near misses.
  • Chemmariner shall follow the International Safety Management Codes for safe ship operation and pollution prevention.
  • Chemmariner shall follow the International Ship and Port Facility Security Code s(ISPS Code, parts A&B) for secure ship operation.
  • Chemmariner shall establish safeguards against all identified risks within its industry. Hazardous and critical operations are identified in the Company Safety Management Manual. We shall continuously improve the safety management skills of persons ashore and afloat. Furthermore we shall have a system that ensures improvement of such safety management skills. In accordance with its declared safety objectives, Chemmariner will pay particular attention to the following:
  • The provisions of a safe place of work, and a healthy working environment, within Chemmariner’s ability.
  • The provision of sufficient information, instruction and supervision to enable all employees to avoid hazards and to contribute positively to their own safety and welfare.

Contingency & Emergency Plans at Chemmariner

Chemmariner shall be ready at all times to deal with all emergencies in a satisfactory manner.

To achieve this, the following shall be provided by Chemmariner:


  • Adequate qualified manpower.
  • A properly equipped contingency room.
  • Efficient means of communication.
  • Up-to-date contingency plans and U.S vessel response plans.
  • Details of Chemmariner’s response procedures are presented in the Emergency Contingency Manual and Emergency Procedures.

Career Development and Training at Chemmariner Shipping Ltd.

“Cross Departmental/Cross Business Exposure, including transfers, secondary or short-term assignments.
“Skills Training, including technical and conceptual training.
“Education Programs, including tuition assistance.
Chemmariner’s career planning is based on the company’s strategic plans and ongoing analysis of the requirements anticipated for specific positions. Based on analysis of Chemmariner’s organizational needs, developmental programs are tailored as appropriate for individuals.

Training for Seafarers

Our ability to provide quality service to our customers depends substantially on the capabilities, experience and knowledge of Chemmariner’s sea staff. We are committed to maintaining programs that are at the forefront of the industry in terms of ensuring that our seafarers are among the best trained in the industry.
To this end, Chemmariner engages in the following processes:
“Research current levels of training of each member of the sea staff and improve their capability through further training.
“Research and implementation of training programs directed at increasing the safe operation of our vessels and the personnel employed aboard.
“Research and implementation training programs directed at providing our customers with optimum sevice and quality assurance.
“Ensures that at all times Chemmariner ships are staffed by Tanker-Careered officers and crew or by officers and crew provided by Chemmariner’s self manning  management.
“Maintains records of courses attended by our crews and make those records available to customers and competent authorities.
“Ensures that certification and experience of our sea staff  conforms to international requirements.

Career Development for Seafarers:

Career development prepares sea staff for promotion. Every rank should be trained for the duties of the next superior  rank. Operational ability should not falter for any reason, including change of staff, promotion onboard or unforeseen circumstances.
The goals of Chemmariner’s training and career-development processes include but are not limited to:
  • Increasing leadership techniques.
  • Eliminating communication problems on board,
  • Eliminating operational delays caused by cargo operations or mechanical failures.
  • Fostering loyalty and enhancing quality assurrance by increasing on board morale and by providing a better work environment and rewards for all.
  • Identifying to our customers that Chemmariner Tankers provides a service incomparable to any other carrier.
  • Providing Chemmariner Tankers with a source of experienced personnel for promotion on board and for fleet management needs, thereby reducing the need to employ senior officers from outside of Chemmariner.
